Here is another ampersand from the series. Played around with the shifting weight of the strokes and the interaction with neighboring shapes. Going for a pinstriped look.

“The Windows of New York project is a weekly illustrated fix for an obsession that has increasingly grown in me since chance put me in this town. A product of countless steps of journey through the city streets, this is a collection of windows that somehow have caught my restless eye out from the never-ending buzz of the city. This project is part an ode to architecture and part a self-challenge to never stop looking up.”

I strive to create playful, clever, yet strong messages that let others communicate, and let me play entertainer.

The fifth hand lettered ampersand in the twelve part series is complete. I drew inspiration from script fonts, focused on curvilinear forms, and the thick and thin contrast of the strokes that are reminiscent of calligraphy.

The third installment. This one was a bear. I was not really feeling the lines inside the shape from the original sketches. Decided go with more organic curves and forms to contrast the gothic letterform. Literally took me longer that the first two glyphs put together.
And the lettering continues!

ISM is a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports collaborative creativity by producing international art experiments and providing free public programs.

The book project “Define Your ISM” was conceived as a “CALL TO ACTION” that reaches out to this community, and prompts passionate people to define what they love. All of the photos were elegantly captured by photographer Lauren Elizalde. As a community ISM brings together so many different people with so many different beliefs. Coming to fruition visually through hundreds of cables weaving in and out through the fabrics of the book and linking back to the enormous switchboard that is ISM, all of these unlikely characters unite through their common love of Art.

This is a limited series of special edition promotional books that is hand bound, has a letterpress cover, and features a gape fold. The cover is 110 lb Clane Lettra cotton bright white, and the body of the body is in Neenah, classic crest, bright white, uncoated.

The second in a series from my secret letterform lettering project. Dirty sketches during a meeting … all the way to the finished product. How delightful.
